Class of 2004

Class Of 2004
B.Sc (Computer – Technology)
A Retrospect
This document is a testimony to the bravery of 103 brave souls thrown together by a quirk of fate into a college of engineering, far away from civilization (and cable TV). Some were at ease. Others were just plain afraid of everything they saw. The college grounds (jungle?), the “strict” staff, the seniors, the micro-canteen, the dead slow computers….The unfamiliar surroundings evoked a strong sense of togetherness and belonging that formed the basis of a friendship that will last forever.

This is the story of the B.SC (COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY) class of 2004.Our strengths, our weaknesses, our achievements and our failures. The story of an extraordinary three years which have transformed us into the people we are and the people we will be, for the rest of our lives. Cynics will say that those three years are just another phase of the miserable life we lead. I beg to differ. I declare (and I am sure all of you guys and gals will agree), that if we had not come to K.S.R.College of Technology three years ago, our lives might have been untouched by those fantastic (and confusing) emotions we call friendship and love. Everything we see, feel, eat, touch, do and experience is colored by the knowledge of the world around us, the world that we know and understand to be our own. Our world of family, friends, lovers, old flames and new crushes that we depend on to encourage, enthuse and enliven us during the darkest hours. And that world, boys and girls, is what we have built for ourselves in these three years. We have anchored ourselves strongly to our roots from where we can reach for the stars.

Forget all those days when you hated coming to college, all those times when you felt betrayed, when you thought your only true friend was yourself, all those little fights with friends and those transient periods of anger, jealousy and hate. Those are the things that make us human. Instead just think about those good times we had and the crazy things we did.

The pages that follow chronicle the events that have made the past three years the most eventful and happiest years of our lives.
In these three years we have grown into persons capable of handling any responsibility given to us with ease and grace. Our college has grown with us too. You will all remember how it was when we got here and how it is when we are leaving it.

Let me begin by telling you what happened before the beginning, what happened before there was CT, before the Big Bang that gave birth to the close knit CT family that is now leaving the K.S.R.College of Technology towards a bright future. Well, there is not much to say. We were divided into two sections. This fostered a friendship between students with different interests and inclinations.

The Tech-Fete was on everybody’s mind and KSR management decided to celebrate it in style. The Tech-Fete that we had was one of the very first such functions in college. It was the final year students who banged the sports championship. Among us many where keen to participate in the competitions. Students from hundreds of colleges all over from TamilNadu made their presence and expressed their talents.

After the hurdle of first year exams and a brief respite, we returned to the grind. Most of us cleared all the papers which we thought impossible, but for some the EEE nightmare paper followed all the way.

We were all in the third semester now. The not very interesting classes prompted us to look around and fueled the desire to know more about those around us. New friendships started developing. This further strengthened our relationships and added to the feeling of oneness and unity that we had always felt for our CT brothers and sisters. We suffered through another month of classes and came close to the third semester exams.

Terminal exams came and went. Tired and mentally spent we decided to recharge our batteries by going on holiday. The plan was to go to a bunch of places in Bangalore and Mysore including the hill station of Ooty. The fun wasn’t in the places; the fun wasn’t in the journey. The fun was being with people we loved and respected. We had a lot of that type of fun.

We returned fresh from a vacation in the ghats only to find tougher tasks and taskmasters waiting for us in the fourth semester. We kept ourselves busy chatting at the hostel rooms, watching films in Sengunthar mill rooms, loitering along empty corridors, especially can anyone forget the days we spent in the shops aside and opposite the college. Mahalakshmi, GV, Akka kada, Balamurugan and still a lot. We spent more time there than at class. All the fun we had during the semester had its own repercussions.

Once – again it was time for the long expected Tech – Fete function. This time we had the vice chancellor of Anna University Balagurusamy as the chief – guest. As usual many of us decided to participate in the competitions. It was the paper – presentation competition where we had a lot of CT – Guys challenging the B.E. students. It was just like another one week vacation.
With all that fun and frolic behind us, we got serious and studied hard for the fourth semester exams. We did our duty once again and we did it well.

Two years of college were over. We were in our third and final year. A galore of hostelers decided to take a pad outside the college. We were all living quite happily having the place well maintained by Cesar Ritz. Imputably the college management lost a handsome measure of income. Had anyone did not have the greed for money; patently our college chairman did have it and he himself jumped into the scene. Our honorable princy, chairman and their henchmen came into our place and they were all over. Apparently earlier in the day a day scholar was pounded by someone in our place, which gave them all the righteousness to enter our garrison. They ransacked whatever they can including computers, mobiles and pirated copies of software CD’s. Nearly 80 people were taken to the nearby police station in our own college jalopy and were charged for ragging. I witnessed the meaning of extortion sitting next to a crook accused for a murder. The cops brutalized a few guys where we stood handicapped. The college management showed all their almighty in front of a furious anthropical. They did their job with consummate ease and demanded us to occupy the vacant hostel rooms. This incident on the next day made all the dayscholars to pump their blood, but it was futile. This heck of an incident cannot be forgotten by any of us throughout our life-time. It is also the sorriest time of our college life.

With that unfortunate episode behind us, it was time to prove that our minds were as strong as our vocal chords. We were ready to be mentally stimulated. We were old enough, we were responsible and we could achieve anything if we put our minds to it and we did just that. Built on joint effort and perseverance, FACT, the association function of Computer - Technology organized and conducted by CT students, was a huge and unprecedented success, appreciated by staff and peers. The long - spoken Sare-Gama function was also a huge success.
This association function of B.Sc (CT) students made everyone look back (especially the B.Sc (IT) students) and we proved ourselves that we were capable of anything.

Fifth semester was also the time when some of us started planning our future after college. We aced our CAT, Tancet exams and proved that CT was second to none in any sphere of achievement. We were all keen to do our masters degree. Our achievements in the fifth semester were not purely academic. Far from it, we shined in all the fields we plunged into. Exam time again. By this time we were used to the routine and just went through the motions of writing five theory exams and two practical exams yet another time.

But all other memories pale when compared to what is generally considered the happiest time of our college life, the final semester. Well, some people consider it the saddest time in college, because it was the final semester. In our final semester we did things we had only dreamed of doing before. That is, we did our projects! Some of us got so involved in our projects. Our guides prodded us to complete our projects on time. But we just wouldn’t listen. Rebelling against the established rules has always been our specialty.

Bang in the middle of the semester, we had the long spoken and the most expected TIES - sports meet. We were all very proud that our college hosted this mega event. Students from hundreds of colleges made their presence and expressed their talents. We had a solid 15 days of holidays.

Back from a 15 days holiday, we returned afresh to our projects and other pressing matters. These concerns required us to minimize our wastage of time and effort and get cracking to finish what we had started just two months before. We delved deeper into our studies.

We edged towards completion of our projects and also towards the end of an amazing three years. Already there were people talking about separation forever and never seeing each other again. Again we plunged into project work and were able to finish on time. The project viva was something we had never done before, and though we all were well prepared, we were just plain scared. We did well on that fateful day (with a little help from our lecturers) and thanked god it was all over finally.

Then came the time to stop gallivanting and start studying for the last exam we would ever write. We prepared well and aced the exams (luck favors the well prepared). And before we knew it, it was time to part. In the space of one hour, without any fanfare, we said goodbyes to each other, unsure of whether we would meet again. We got ready for the ritual group photo sessions with staff.

Now that you have read through this chronicle of our life over the three years, remember, all your friends ask of you is that you talk to them, that you share your joy, share your sorrow, share your successes and failures and be there for them like they have been and will be there for you, forever.
So, wherever you go, whatever you do, remember that your friends are always there for you. Maybe not right next to you, but close by, where you can reach out and know that you are not alone. And hey, make sure they know you are there too. So keep in touch.
